The 8th chakra, often called the Soul Star (Soul Essence in shamanism) or halo chakra, is known as "Sutara" in Sanskrit.
It represents the connection to higher consciousness. It is considered the seat of divine love, spiritual compassion, and spiritual selflessness, and is seen as the doorway (gateway to higher consciousness, the bridge between our earthly existence and the divine, and the seat of our soul's purpose) between our immortal soul and our earth-bound personality, located above the head, floating outside the physical body. 
In shamanic traditions, the Soul Star chakra is seen as a place of connection to the spirit world and a gateway to accessing higher states of awareness and spiritual wisdom - It connects us to other dimensions or worlds, including those used in past-life regression, shamanic healing, psychic trance, and mediumship, and it can assess the Akashic Records.
